A Preponderance of Pareidolia
I’m excited to announce that I will have a series of paintings on display at Blackfish Gallery (in Portland, Oregon) during the month of June. The new series is called “A Preponderance of Pareidolia” and focuses on driftwood as the subject matter and explores pareidolia—a psychological phenomenon that causes people to see patterns in random stimulus (or the ability to see shapes or make pictures out of randomness). The most common form is people seeing faces in objects where there isn’t one. For this series, I’ve woven imagery into the shapes of the driftwood, some of it more obvious and some well-hidden. It can be up to the viewer to decide what they see in each piece.
